Man on Bench has been on loan to the Town Council for the past two years through the generosity of his maker Giles Penny. Giles needs to cover his costs, so if Man on Bench is to stay the town now urgently needs to raise the funds to keep him.
The Town Council does not have the legal power to purchase works of art (though it may own them). We are exploring other avenues (such as grants) to raise some of the money, but we also need your help if Man on Bench is to stay.
We have set a target of £12,500 to be raised by 15 October 2017. If you want to help please go to the Crowdfunding page. You will not have to pay unless the target is reached.

How much money has been collected so far???
Just over £1,500 had been pledged as of yesterday. As well as seeking pledges we are approaching a number of charities and other grant-giving organisations, and planning some fund-raising events.
£12500 – £1500 = £11000.
£11000 divided by 2800 residents = approx £4.00 per head whip-round
Surely attainable, if everyone plays ball?
I really hope we can raise enough to keep him . It will be a very sad day if he has to go I hope there is enough art lovers in Bruton to donate a fiver at least !
I was told it was a minimum pledge of £10 is this true? Realy want him to stay but felt this excludes some people who want to give.
We suggested £5 or multiples of £5 for people who can afford more.
Thank you for clearing that up James as I was told £10 at the Packhorse Fair.
Now up to £1,845.
Now up to £1,959.
Now £2,999.
