On the Brook (Pat and Sophie) have really shown community spirit by setting up Laptops for Learning to make sure every child in Bruton has a laptop for school work during lockdown. With the support of Brue Computing (James), donated laptops have been refurbished and distributed to the schools that local children attend; Sexey’s, Bruton Primary School and Upton Noble School.
Many kind members of the community donated unwanted hardware, safe in the knowledge that their personal details were professionally removed. The laptops were then upgraded if necessary, tested and distributed to grateful schools. There has been a cost to doing this which has been met by money raised by On the Brook, Rose & Lyons and by generous private donations. Bruton Town Council is now pursuing funding so the work can be continued and extended to support others in the community. The hope is to make tablets available to those that need them and also to have laptops available for loan. If you know of someone who would benefit from this contact Bruton Town Council’s Community Development Officer.

Laptops for Learning has been a great example of a community working together. Thank you to those who donated the hardware which is now being useful rather than gathering dust or ending up in landfill. Thank you to the the businesses who raised money and the private donors. Thank you to James and team for doing the refurbishing that was such an important part of the project. Finally a massive thank you to Sophie and Pat for coming up with the idea and having the drive to make it happen.
