On Sunday 7 May, Bruton will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III in traditional style, with a “Big Lunch” on Lower Backway and the open spaces around the stepping stones, Man on Bench, and Packhorse Bridge. Please join our wonderful community in bringing food to share from 12:30 pm, to offer a right-Royal feast fit for our first King in over seventy years!

We have organised the closure of Mill Lane and Lower Backway to traffic for the day, to keep Brutonian royalists safe, so would really appreciate if residents who usually park towards the Packhorse Bridge end, could find other places for their vehicles on this Sunday feast day.

On the Coronation Saturday itself, 6 May, Bruton Unionist Club is holding a “Family Fun Day” from 2 pm, with the bar open from 2 pm, the Coronation on the big screen, and live music from 3:30 until 10 pm.

The new King and Queen Consort have titled the addition Bank Holiday, 8 May, “The Big Help Out”, in order to “encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas”. We will honour Monday 8th with a Bruton ‘Weed Pick’ and Spring Clean, in partnership with Bruton Primary PSA. Bring hand tools and yourself to Packhorse Bridge for 10 am (if you are not still there from the Bruton “Big Lunch”).

Many Thanks 🙏 Mike Brownlow for drawing this lovely cartoon!
