355 people completed the survey, slightly over half doing so online.
This is 33% of households. (This is very close to the 34% who responded in 1996. Unfortunately, the number of respondents to the 2010 survey is not known).
The youngest respondent was 6, and the oldest 96.
More over 45s completed the survey than are found in the population, and fewer young people. The survey does not give a good representation of the views of all ages.
There were fewer respondents from Redlynch and from Burrowfield and Eastfield than expected, and more from St Catherines and Tolbury and the Park and Plox areas.
The survey picked up the expected number of households with children (about 30%) and of non-drivers (about 15%).
When we asked how long people had lived in Bruton, the answers were very similar to those given in 1996. More people in our survey (63%) had lived in the town for over ten years than was the case then.
Our survey showed that 30% had lived in Bruton for over 25 years, which was the same figure as found in the 2010 survey.
A turnover of population of 4.5% over a 25-year period results in 30% remaining at the end of the 25 years. If the survey is representative this is a good estimate of the annual turnover. It is about 110 new residents each year.
Most people moved to the town for work. Moving to live near relatives or because of the schools were equally common second reasons for moving.
