We were previously made aware of significant cracking along the footpath through Crown Green, along with deterioration of the adjacent riverside wall. As this area falls under the responsibility of Somerset Council, officers reported the issue and provided supporting photographs.
Although a patch repair was carried out shortly afterwards, concerns about the condition of the wall have continued. Over the past week, the repair itself has subsided, and further deterioration has been observed, including debris falling into the river.
Officers have continued to update Somerset Council regarding these developments and associated safety concerns. As a result, Somerset Council has taken the decision to close this section of the footpath until it can be confirmed safe to reopen. It is hoped that this will take place today (Wednesday 8th April 2026).
