The planned upgrade to improve access through the Abbey Ponds site will be taking place during November, with a planned start date of 3rd November (weather permitting). Works at the Abbey Ponds site are expected to be a minimum of 10 days (weather dependent). As some of you may be aware, this site is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) and as such, it has been necessary to obtain consent from Historic England for this work to take place.
These improvements include an upgrade to the pathway along Abbey Ponds, a ramp replacing the steps and renewed gateways, followed by extending the pathway through the Durslade Walled gardens, creating an access friendly route for the community to enjoy.
During this time the footpath will be closed and it is recommend to use the Dovecot field to access the upper pathway above the ponds. As the upgrade progresses, there may be disruption to access through the allotment. Information will be updated on the website news page as and when works progress.
A later phase of the project will include information and way-finding signage. The hope is to encourage the community to enjoy the natural beauty and learn some of the history of Abbey Ponds as well as providing a more accessible route for connection with the town.
Specific dates and further information will be updated on the website news page as and when works progress, apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience during this time.
