🌧️ Abbey Pond Footpath Flooding Update 🌧️

The footpaths at Abbey Ponds have been flooding more frequently, sometimes overflowing onto Dropping Lane. Bruton Town Council has been investigating the cause.

One key issue has been identified: the outflow pipe that carries water from the ponds to the River Brue (near Station Road car park). This pipe runs under the railway and is managed by Network Rail. Their survey has confirmed that parts of the pipe are in poor condition and need repair.

At the Full Council meeting on 20 January, it was agreed that we will press Network Rail to restore the pipe to its original capacity as soon as possible. We will also ask other affected parties, such as Highways, to support this request.

In the meantime, we will continue repairing the footpath whenever it is damaged. Once the pipe is fixed, we’ll review whether further measures are needed to prevent future flooding.
