Wessex Water is investing more than £7 million to upgrade Bruton’s water recycling centre, at the end of Gants Mill Lane over the next year.
From October, teams from YTL Construction UK will be working through a 15-month construction programme at the treatment plant off Gants Mill Lane, which treats all sewage from the town.
The improvements will see new treatment systems installed to help remove nutrients, such as phosphorus, from being released into the River Brue, which can potentially harm plant and animal life.
All of the construction activity will take place within the existing boundary of the water recycling centre, with a construction compound set up adjacent to the site.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “This is a significant investment to ensure the quality of treated wastewater at Bruton continues to meet the highest standards. Ultimately this means improved river health.”
The narrow nature of Gants Mill Lane means there may be occasions where access either on to the lane, or out on to Cole Road, may be affected, with short delays while our construction traffic enters or leaves the site. ‘No entry’ signs will be erected at the Sunny Hill end of Gants Mill Lane.
“We’d like to thank local customers for their patience while we complete these important improvements. There will be no impact from the project on customers’ sewerage services, which can be used as normal.’’
The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
