Residents who rely on heating oil as their main source of heating or hot water may be eligible for financial support through the Somerset Crisis and Resilience Fund.
Around 29,300 households across Somerset depend solely on oil for heating and hot water. As the heating oil market is unregulated, increases in wholesale prices can quickly lead to higher costs for consumers. Although prices have reduced from recent peaks, they remain significantly higher than before the Iran conflict.
Somerset Council has received £1.2 million to help households struggling with heating oil costs and is encouraging eligible residents to apply before winter.
The Heating Oil Help scheme is aimed at households who:
- Have a low or limited income
- Use oil as their main source of heating or hot water
- Have less than 300 litres of oil remaining in their tank
The average award is £600, providing valuable support to households facing financial hardship.
