Bruton Town Council receives income via the precept, which is raised from local council tax payers according to the value of their property and collected by the District Council (or Somerset Council from April 2023). Our budget is set each year to determine how the council will spend its money, and therefore how much it needs to request via the District Council (or Somerset Council from April 2023). To keep the precept as low as possible, we also seek as many grants as we can to fund specific projects.
In the 2022-23 financial year, Bruton Town Council’s turnover exceeded £200,000, meaning that we are now subject to the Local Government Transparency Code 2015. The Code requires us to publish certain financial and other information on our website. The Code can be found here: Local Government Transparency Code 2015
